Parental leave is a critical career transition, and the right support is vital. This includes maternity, paternity, adoption and Shared Parental Leave — all of which bring their own challenges, expectations and adjustments.

It is common for employees to experience anxiety, a loss of confidence, disengagement, or difficulty reintegrating into the workplace following time away and a shift in identity, both at work and at home.

Our parental leave and return-to-work coaching supports employees across the full leave lifecycle — from pre-leave preparation and planning, through time away, to return and reintegration.

This includes tailored support for those navigating paternity, adoption and shared parental leave. We recognise that each experience is different, and support individuals in making sense of what this means in practice, with clarity and confidence. We are also able to step in and provide timely, specialist support when things don’t go to plan.

Not only does our approach support employee confidence and wellbeing, it also supports the organisation by enabling clear, well-managed leave and return transitions.

This reduces the risk of disengagement and supports retention, while contributing to a more consistent and confident employee experience across the business.

What does this coaching include?

  • Preparing both emotionally and practically for parental leave (including maternity, paternity, adoption and shared parental leave)

  • Support and guidance around handover planning and maintaining work continuity

  • Navigating identity and confidence shifts during the transition into parenthood

  • Maintaining appropriate connection with the workplace during leave, where beneficial

  • Guidance around Shared Parental Leave arrangements, including how leave may be structured and managed in practice

  • Formulating clear return-to-work plans, including Keep in Touch (KIT) days, check-ins, and consideration of flexible working arrangements where appropriate

  • Supporting a confident, well-managed return to work and reintegration

  • Developing clear boundaries, managing workload, and establishing a sustainable way of working

    Our coaching supports all forms of parental leave — maternity, paternity, adoption and shared parental leave — and is tailored to the individual, their family context, and their role within the organisation, ensuring both employee support and effective workplace outcomes.

How is this coaching delivered?

Our parental leave and return-to-work coaching supports employees whenever, wherever and however they work – across time zones and inclusive of different working arrangements (such as on-site or remote).

We also have the qualifications, experience and practical ability to scale and adapt our services as your organisation grows, or as policy requirements change.

Each of our Beyond EAP coaching programmes follow strict codes of practice, including confidentiality and data protection, in compliance with relevant data privacy regulations.
